Open for Business

05/04/2010

The 2010 golf season is officially under way.  Our annual Girls High School Invitational Tournament will be held tomorrow, and using today as an indicator the weather will be nice, albeit windy.

Ahead of Schedule

04/22/2010

We are finished with our spring cultural practices on the putting greens.  The course wintered great and the current weather has allowed us to start a week ahead of schedule.  The greens will be in top notch condition the earliest they have been in the four years we have been open.

First Greens Mow 2010

03/30/2010

Its 84 degrees today and the grass is popping everywhere.  We decided to clean up the greens today and put the first mow of 2010 on them.  So far it looks like we survived the winter.

Welcome to March!

03/01/2010

Saturday it was 53 degrees and Garrett and I got in 9 holes plus a root beer loop (10, 11, 12, 9).  We woke up this morning to a fresh blanket of wet snow, our second snow in as many weeks.

Recycling Efforts Continue in 2010

02/05/2010

Like observing and celebrating the many ‘firsts’ in the development of an infant child, Ballyneal Golf Club witnessed a ‘developmental first’ of sorts in 2009,with a fledgling effort to intercept a small portion of our generated waste and offer it up for recycling.

WINTER WATERING

02/05/2010

The weather has finally cooperated enough this week that we are able to get out and water our turf.  What started out being a great winter in early November has become fairly maddening.  The cold temperatures have not allowed us to rehydrate the soils on a regular schedule.

Winterize

11/13/2009

As much as I love the smell of fresh cut grass, I admit that I welcome the smell of the first frost just as much.  It is a much needed stimulant for all of us as the growing season is beginning to wind down and means its time to start preparing for the winter ahead.  Days are getting shorter, our watering cycles cease, and the mowers spend most of their time parked at the shop.
